Multiple Notification Emails on Ticket Update

I'm finding that anytime I update a ticket, I'm getting an e-mail notification twice.

Am I receiving 2 notifications because I am the user that created the ticket and also the user updating the ticket?

Just want to confirm...

Also, is there a way to change the content in the e-mails so we can create our own customized template?
