Profile: User Name

Please forgive if I'm dense here... Why when I click on Profile is the User Name field read-only?

I can successfully set the email, phone number, and domain fields, but the User Name field appears to be read-only.  What is it that I'm obviosusly missing?

It is read only, it is set to pull your AD name, and you cannot edit this.
